Razza di Junco beach
The Spiaggia di Razza di Junco is located on the Costa Smeralda in north-eastern Sardinia, opposite and overlooking Porto Rotondo. It is a small, sheltered bay characterized by light, medium-fine sand with pebbles and medium-quality water. Dogs are allowed on this beach in one area (left side of the beach).
The approach is via a bumpy dirt road. Be careful, there are lots of bends and it can be confusing at times, so drive slowly and access is on foot via a short path through the Mediterranean scrub. Parking is available nearby, from there it is about a two to ten minute walk to the beach, depending on where you park. Due to its somewhat hidden location and its designation as a dog beach, the Spiaggia di Razza di Junco is less crowded than many other beaches in the region, especially outside the main season.
The water is quite shallow, making the bay suitable for both swimmers and families. There is a lifeguard service on the beach, which is “armed” with a rubber dinghy. Due to the sheltered location, wind and swell are usually low. Snorkeling is also possible, as smaller sea creatures can be observed in the rocky areas at the edge of the bay. There are hardly any shady spots, so you should take a parasol with you.
There is a nice bar on the beach itself with hot and cold drinks and a good selection of food. If you like it, the music is quite loud and chilled.
The view across the bay of Cugnana to Porto Rotondo with its many yachts and mega yachts is magnificent.
The Spiaggia di Razza di Junco is particularly suitable for those looking for a relatively quiet alternative to the well-known beaches of the Costa Smeralda and who value a natural environment. We didn’t mind the dogs as they stayed with their owners in the left-hand area.
A little further on (approx. 3 km) is Liscia Ruja beach, where we would rather go again.
