Off to the world-famous Cala Goloritze

Today it’s time to get up early because we’re going to the world-famous Cala Goloritze. The journey from Villa Ella is quite long and takes about 3 hours. So it’s a long day trip – but it’s worth it. On the way south, you drive through the mountains of Sardinia and that alone is very impressive. Our first destination is a hiking parking lot called “Su Porteddu”. From there, continue on foot, as Cala Goloritze can only be reached via a hiking trail or by boat.

Hike to the beach

There is a kiosk in the parking lot where we treat the kids to ice cream and ourselves to a cold beer. With parasol, sun blanket, cool box, food and two children, we set off for the Goloritze. You walk from about 450 meters above sea level to the sea over a distance of about 3.5 kilometers. You will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the mountains and the Mediterranean. And then at some point you see it, Cala Goloritze and the crystal-clear blue water. That is very impressive.

The water of the cala is crystal clear and you can certainly see 10-15 meters deep. The color is indescribable from turquoise to deep blue. You can jump from the rocks into the deep water.

Our day there was simply wonderful. The beach is quite small and was well frequented, but everyone was in a good mood and had a lot of fun.

Cala Goloritze by boat

If you don’t fancy the long journey, you can take an excursion boat from Santa Maria Navarese to the Caribbean beach. That’s certainly great fun too.

Please note

  • The hiking trail to Cala Goloritze is long and very steep in places. Good footwear and sure-footedness are required.
  • The hike is also suitable for children if they can walk longer distances on their own.
  • Take food with you! There is nothing to buy on the beach. No food, no water, no snacks. So take everything with you.
  • Time! Plan enough time for the way back. It takes about 1 hour to get there and about 1.5 hours to get back.
  • Water! Take enough water with you. Above all, remember to have enough drinks for the way back. It only goes uphill.
  • Water, water, water! At 33° we had used up our supplies very quickly and were back at the parking lot with the last drop. Calculates with min. 2 liters per person for one day.
